Effects of exogenous glucose on in vivo kinetics of plasma glucose, blood CO2, and rumen propionate in lactating cows

Effects of exogenous glucose on in vivo kinetics of plasma glucose, blood CO2, and rumen propionate in lactating cows

Journal of Dairy Science 70(Suppl. 1): 105

In a 3 x 3 Latin-square design, Holstein cows were given a forage diet, forage with an infusion of glucose (342 g/day) or forage with an infusion of glucose (737 g/day). Treatment did not affect fat-corrected milk yield or irreversible losses of rumen propionate and blood CO2. Movements of glucose into the plasma glucose pool and carbon from the plasma glucose pool were increased with glucose infusion.
