Effects of feeder cattle frame size, sex and age class on performance, carcass and palatability characteristics

Effects of feeder cattle frame size, sex and age class on performance, carcass and palatability characteristics

Dissertation Abstracts International, B Sciences and Engineering 47(2): 444-445

126 bulls, steers and heifers of 3 frame-size groups (small, medium and large) were fed an 84%-concentrates finishing diet as calves or as yearlings (following a 112-day preliminary period) until a fat thickness of 11.4 mm was reached. Bulls had superior gains and required a greater number of days on the finishing diet compared with steers and heifers.
