Effects of feeding sour milk on longevity and tumorigenesis in mice and rats

Effects of feeding sour milk on longevity and tumorigenesis in mice and rats

Bifidobacteria and Microflora 4(1): 31-37

From 4 weeks of age until natural death 3 groups of female ICR mice were given a control diet or diets containing 14% cultured milk or 1.6% whole milk powder. Av. life span of mice given control, cultured milk and whole milk was 84.9, 91.8, and 84.4 wk., resp. Life span of mice given cultured milk was av. 8% longer than that of the control group. Counts of bifidobacteria in intestinal flora of mice fed cultured milk were 10 times higher than counts in mice fed whole milk or the control diet.
