Effects of fertilizer nitrogen on leaf nitrate reductase activity and protein content of three oat cultivars

Effects of fertilizer nitrogen on leaf nitrate reductase activity and protein content of three oat cultivars

Canadian Journal of Plant Science 67(2): 373-383

Leaf nitrate reductase activity, leaf nitrate content and grain and straw protein contents were studied in oats Lamar, Cascade and Cabot following application of 150 kg N/ha as ammonium nitrate at sowing or split between 18 and 30 days after sowing. Enzymatic activity was the same in all 3 irrespective of N application date; activity was high at the coleoptile stage, at a max. at tillering and then decreased until heading.
