Effects of fibre and protein levels on growth and carcass characteristics of pigs

Effects of fibre and protein levels on growth and carcass characteristics of pigs

MARDI Research Bulletin 14(2): 170-177

Nine diets were formulated for a total of 90 pigs of average initial liveweight 25 kg. Diets had neutral detergent fibre 10, 15 or 20%, each with crude protein averaging 14.6, 17.6 or 20.6%. Average daily gain was 753, 676 and 559 g on the low-, medium- and high-fibre diets, respectively; pigs on the high-fibre diet had significantly lower average daily intake. Feed intake/kg gain was 3.12, 3.40 and 3.92 kg, respectively.
