Culture filtrates of F. oxysporum, F. moniliforme and F. roseum, estimated by high pressure liquid chromatology to contain 15-55 mg fusaric acid/litre, were applied to callus and mesophyll cell cultures in vitro. The filtrates inhibited cell division and killed the cultures. The second effect was attributed to high concentrations of fusaric acid, but the cause of the first was not clear.
