Effects of floc volume variations on activated sludge thickening characteristics

Journal Water Pollution Control Federation 58(7): 784-791

The influence of sludge floc water content on the thickening characteristics of activated sludge was studied, as was the impact of variations in mean cell residence time on floc water content and corresponding thickening rates. Two lab.-scale reactors and one full-scale plant were monitored. A variety of mathematical techniques were used to estimate sludge parameters such as the Aggregate Volume Index, and sludge floc density.
