Effects of gamma radiation on sheep blowfly Lucilia cuprina (Wiedemann, 1830) irradiated as pupae

Effects of gamma radiation on sheep blowfly Lucilia cuprina (Wiedemann, 1830) irradiated as pupae

Indian Journal of Animal Sciences, 577: 654-658

Individuals of Lucilia cuprina were caught at a slaughterhouse in Tamil Nadu, India, and bred under laboratory conditions at 32 degrees C. Pupae were exposed 2 days before eclosion to 2500, 4000, 5000 or 7000 rads of gamma radiation from a cobalt source. No pupal mortality was recorded. The hatch rate of eggs produced by the flies that emerged decreased with increasing doses of radiation.
