Effects of wheat streak mosaic virus infection on fifteen hard red spring wheat cultivars

A total of 15 Triticum aestivum cultivars were grown in paired field plots in 1986. At leaf stage 3-4, the 2 centre rows of one plot of each pair were sprayed with inoculum and carborundum and at the end of the season, grain was harvested from the 2 centre rows of the paired plots. Average yields and 1000-grain weights for all cultivars were significantly lower in the inoculated plots, but Butte, Butte 86, Cutless and Challenger showed the least yield reduction.
