Endocrinological studies on pregnancy, postpartum anoestrus and seasonal variation of ovarian activity in the Australian swamp buffalo cow

Endocrinological studies on pregnancy, postpartum anoestrus and seasonal variation of ovarian activity in the Australian swamp buffalo cow

Buffalo Journal 3(1): 67-72

In anoestrous cows, plasma progesterone concentration was consistently <1 ng/ml. In pregnant cows, plasma progesterone concentration ranged from 1 to 5 ng/ml. Serial measurements of plasma progesterone concentration in non-pregnant cows revealed a seasonal pattern of ovarian activity. The postpartum anoestrous interval averaged 5.8+or-3.3 months. Cows calving in the late dry season had longer postpartum intervals than cows calving at other times.
