Feeding and reproduction in gilts and sows

Feeding and reproduction in gilts and sows

Recent advances in animal nutrition in Australia 1987: 317-337

There is much evidence to suggest that lean gilts should be fed ad lib. from the time of selection until they are bred at their second or third oestrus. Pregnant gilts should not be fed in excess of 2.5 kg/day in early gestation. For sows that have lost considerable weight (in excess of 15 kg) during lactation, high levels of feeding in early gestation will increase weight gain but will not reduce embryo survival.
