Field evaluation of selected insecticides against rice stem borer and leaf folder in hill region

Field evaluation of selected insecticides against rice stem borer and leaf folder in hill region

Oryza 22(2): 137-139

The effectiveness of carbofuran in granules at 0.75 kg toxicant/ha (applied 1-3 times) and of chlorpyrifos or monocrotophos in foliar sprays at 0.5 litre toxicant/ha (applied 1, 2 or 4 times), was evaluated for the control of the noctuid Sesamia inferens and the pyralid Cnaphalocrocis medinalis in the hilly region of Uttar Pradesh, India, as compared with the 'maximum protection schedule' involving 3 applications of carbofuran granules at 0.1 kg/ha and 1 application of chlorpyrifos spray at 0.5 litre toxicant/ha. Although all treatments were significantly superior to none, the most effective in controlling the pests and increasing grain yield proved to be 4 applications of chlorpyrifos.
