Fijians and Indo-Fijians in Suva: rural-urban movements and linkages

Fijians and Indo-Fijians in Suva: rural-urban movements and linkages

Reprints, East West Population Institute, East West Center, Hawaii (198): 28

Field research in Melanesia has emphasized the impermanent character of population movement and in particular its circularity. The major goal of field research conducted in Fiji, on which the paper is based, is to identify whether the dominant form of movement from rural areas to the capital of Suva is a permanent and one-way flow (migration) or impermanent and more circular in nature (circulation).
