Seven studies established to examine the effects of herbaceous weed control on loblolly pine was accompanied by greater rust incidence and severity. Increases in incidence of branch galls were significant on four sites, while increases in incidence of stem galls were significant on only two sites. Trees with and without stem infections at age five were found not to differ in height at age one or two within any treatment. At age five, trees with stem infections were generally smaller in dbh and height than those without infections.
