Genetic manipulations of tobacco and soybean for resistance to sulfonylurea herbicides

Abstracts of papers, 192nd ACS National Meeting: AGRO 3

Two different strategies were used to select for resistance to sulfonylurea herbicides (SU). In tobacco, selection was imposed at the cellular level to isolate mutant cell lines resistant to chlorsulfuron and other SU. Resistance was conferred by a herbicide insensitive form of acetolactate synthase (ALS) and was expressed in regenerated plants and inherited as a single semidormant nuclear gene.
