Grain and protein yield of spring barley depending on nitrogen fertilization and sowing rate

In 221 field trials in 6 regions of Poland in 1975-80, spring barley was sown at 2.4, 3.1 or 3.8 million seeds/ha and given 30, 60 or 90 kg N/ha. Data are presented on av. grain yield and protein content, protein yield/ha, lodging and 1000-grain wt. Av. grain yield increased with increasing N rate and generally increased with increasing sowing rate, but highest yields were obtained with 60 kg N/ha and 1 or both of the higher sowing rates in the NE, mid-W. and SE regions.
