Grain quality of winter wheat as affected by nitrate fertiliser application timed to apical development

, : Grain quality of winter wheat as affected by nitrate fertiliser application timed to apical development. Aspects of Applied Biology (15): 271-276

In a field experiment in 1983-84, comparing early (double ridge apical development stage; 10 March.) with late (post-terminal spikelet; 24 April) N fertilizer application to a winter wheat crop, the late application resulted in 7.5% higher grain yield and 4% gain in 1000-grain wt;protein content increased from 11.0 to 12.4%.
