During 1984 and 1985, the effects of 7 compaction treatments ranging from zero traffic to 10 tractor passes across the full width of experimental plots on the structure of a previously ripped loamy sand profile and on subsequent wheat yields were studied. Increased traffic resulted in increased soil strength and compaction, with cone resistance at 19 cm depth ranging from 2.2 to 4.1 MPa in the winter.
