The relationships between heavy metal concentrations (Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, Ni, Cr) in 59 soils of the Aranjuez Plain, Spain, and soil properties were investigated using multivariate factor analysis. The most significant correlations were between total Pb and the contents of silt and organic matter, between total and N HCl-soluble Cd and the contents of silt, organic matter and carbonates, between total and soluble Ni and silt, between total Ni and clay, and between total Cr and clay.
