In laboratory trials using a washing device with agitation, immobilized beta -galactosidase (Sumylact) was successfully cleaned by successive washes with deionized water, 600 mM acetic acid (pH 3), water and 45 mM Clark-Lubs buffer (NaH2PO4 + NaOH, pH 7.3); this treatment decreased the amount of protein adhering to Sumylact immersed for 1 h in 12% reconstituted skim milk to 10 mg/g wet weight.
