Income and employment increasing possibilities under different farming systems on small farms in Mid-Western region of Uttar Pradesh

Income and employment increasing possibilities under different farming systems on small farms in Mid-Western region of Uttar Pradesh

Agricultural Situation in India 43(1): 17-23

The paper examines existing levels of income and employment, and the possibilities of increasing them, under five different small farm systems in two districts of Uttar Pradesh. Data were collected from 67 farmers for the year 1983/84. The five farming systems used were: (1) cropping, (2) crop + dairy, (3) crop + goat, (4) crop + dairy + goat, and (5) crop + dairy + poultry. A linear programming model was used to determine the optimum return for each of the five systems.
