Indian irrigation: an assessment

Economic and Political Weekly 23(19): 965-972

The paper examines the productivity of land under irrigation and looks at different types of irrigation. It discusses whether groundwater irrigation augments production more than canal irrigation and, if so, whether emphasis should be placed on the development of groundwater resources rather than on major irrigation works.
