Induced ovulation, pregnancy and parturition in lactating sows

Prostaglandin F2 alpha , PMSG and HCG were administered to lactating sows. At oestrus, colouring and swelling of the vulva was distinct, but secretion of mucus and response to back pressure were not so clearly developed. AI was most successful when conducted 18-24 h after HCG treatment. Conception and pregnancy occurred in 58.3% of the lactating sows. Litter size was greater, but birth weight of piglets was lower, in treated sows than in untreated animals.
