Industrialization as a development instrument in over-populated agricultural areas of South and South East Asia

Industrialization as a development instrument in over-populated agricultural areas of South and South East Asia

Land, Agrarwirtschaft und Gesellschaft 2(3): 493-526

Examples are drawn from India, Pakistan and many other countries in South East Asia to illustrate the problems of overpopulated rural areas where agriculture has reached the limits of its capacity to absorb more workers and where the oil crisis has added to the problems of intensifying food production. Industrialization of the right type in the right areas can help reduce unemployment, especially of landless labourers, and add to local purchasing power.
