Inheritance of protein and lysine content in the grain of different types of maize hybrid obtained from crosses of lines improved and unimproved in respect of grain quality
Crosses involving normal, high-lysine, high-protein and high-lysine + high-protein lines were studied. Hybrids were found which exceeded normal and high-lysine lines in protein and lysine content and in protein and lysine yield/unit area by 1.0-3.8%. Protein content tended to improve with increasing complexity of the hybrids (from single to double and more complex hybrids). Lysine content in the dry matter of most hybrids was close to that of the worse parent.
