Inheritance of resistance to black stain of malting barley

Inheritance of resistance to black stain of malting barley

Phytopathology 77(12): 1724

Four crosses were made between cultivars resistant and susceptible to black stain and the F2 and F3 were evaluated for resistance on a 1-5 scale of increasing symptom severity. Resistant parents scored 1.8 and 2.3, while susceptible parents scored 2.7-3.7. F3 progeny means were 2.4-3.1, indicating greater susceptibility than predicted from mid-parental values. Heritability estimates of 42-56% were obtained.
