Inhibition of blood mononuclear cell blastogenesis by bovine mammary secretions

Skim and whey preparations of colostrum, milk, and dry secretion collected at 7 and 28 days of involution were filter sterilized and frozen. Blood (80 ml) was collected from 5 lactating cows. Mononuclear cells were isolated by density gradient centrifugation using Ficoll diatrizoate (sp. gr. 1.083 g/ml). Concanavalin A (con A, 5 micro g/ml) and phytohaemagglutinin (PHA, 25 micro g/ml) were used to induce blastogenesis.
