Initial experiences with the use of carfentanil at Prague Zoo

Veterinarstvi 38(1): 40-41
Initial experiences with the use of carfentanil at Prague Zoo
Carfentanyl, a carboxylated derivative of fentanyl, approximately 8000 times more potent than morphine and 20 to 30 times more so than fentanyl, is the most powerful analgesic known. Dogs received 10 micro g/kg of carfentanyl, preceded by propionylpromazine at 0.25 to 2.5 mg/kg intravenously; later exotic animals, including carnivores (dingo, wolf) and ruminants (greater kudu, nyala, addax) received the same dosage of carfentanyl, combined with xylazine in some ruminants.
