Interspecific potato hybrids with potential for breeding for Fusarium dry rot resistance

In 1979-84, 1134 hybrids from crosses between Solanum bulbocastanum, S. demissum, S. acaule, S. phureja and S. andigenum (S. tuberosum subsp. andigena), together with the F1 and BC1 from their crosses with S. tuberosum, were evaluated, following artificial infection, for resistance to the Fusarium spp. causing dry rot. A total of 223 forms were resistant, with very high resistance over 2-3 years in population P56 ((S. demissum X S. bulbocastanum) X S. andigenum).
