Keeping quality of nectarines during export by sea to distant ports

Flavortop and Flamekist nectarines were susceptible to chilling injury after 3 weeks storage at 0 degrees C. Fruit picked in the later part of the harvest season were more susceptible than earlier harvested fruit. The most prominent injury was a reddening of the pulp, which in some instances was accompanied by slight woolliness and breakdown. The extent of the disorder was reduced by delaying cold storage for 24 h and holding the fruit at 25 degrees.
