Life cycle of the wood-borer Aenetus virescens (Lepidoptera: Hepialidae)

Life cycle of the wood-borer Aenetus virescens (Lepidoptera: Hepialidae)

New Zealand Journal of Zoology, 142: 209-217

The results of a 4-year survey on the larval and pupal stages of Aenetus virescens in trees (especially Carpodetus serratus) in New Zealand are presented and supplemented by observations on the duration and seasonal abundance of the egg, larval, pupal and adult stages. Adults emerged mainly in spring and early summer (September-December). Eggs matured within 1 month and young larvae fed on dead wood and fungi for about 2 months.
