Three groups of 8 male Wistar rats 27 days old were given diets based on skimmed milk powder without or with raw or cooked horse gram for 7 days. In further trials groups of 8 rats 21 to 22 days old were given diets with raw whole horse gram, autoclaved whole horse gram and cooked dehusked horse gram providing 10% protein for 4 weeks without or with supplemental methionine, tryptophan and threonine.
