Measuring the specific heat of grains with differential scanning calorimetry

Measuring the specific heat of grains with differential scanning calorimetry

Journal of the Japanese Society of Agricultural Machinery 49(6): 547-553

Differential scanning calorimetry was used to measure the specific heat of wheat, unhulled rice, brown rice, buckwheat, beans, soyabeans, barley, adlai and soyabean residue at 0-35% m.c. Specific heat increased linearly with m.c. and quadratically with temp. An equation was developed, using parameters determined by the least squares method and showed a good fit with moisture and temp. curves.
