The present situation in the Eastern Caribbean is examined in the context of the development of tourism as it affects the people. There is a worsening employment situation; the governments are struggling with the problem but so far without finding solutions. In Antigua, as in many of the other islands, self-employment creation is being given greater consideration, but equity considerations have received only lip-service.
