In field trials on a dark red latosol in Botucatu, Sao Paulo, sorghum Brandes was given NPK applied as ammonium sulphate, single superphosphate and KCl at 10 different rates or combinations. Application of the highest rate of N (180 kg/ha) gave the highest N content in sap (838 mg/litre). The lowest content of N (457 mg/litre) and the highest contents of P, K, Mg, Fe and Zn were found in plants grown without N.
