Pesticides and wildlife: twenty years of vertebrate wildlife incident investigations by MAFF

The results of 2100 suspected wildlife poisoning incidents thought to involve agricultural chemicals, investigated by MAFF during the period 1964-1983, are reviewed. Agricultural chemicals were identified in 44% of incidents investigated. Disease and trauma accounted for a further 11% of incidents. Since the withdrawal of organochlorine seed treatments in the mid-seventies there have been relatively few incidents arising from the recommended agricultural use of pesticides.
