Postulation of genes for stem rust resistance in 24 Chinese wheat cultivars

The reactions to 23 isolates of Puccinia graminis f.sp. tritici were determined in these cultivars, the most widely grown in China in the 1960s and 1970s. Only 7 genes for resistance: Sr5, Sr6, Sr8a, Sr11, Sr17 and SrTmp of the 25 Sr genes evaluated appeared to be present. Yang-Mai possessed genes for resistance other than those studied. No Sr genes for resistance were detected in Beijing 6, Beijing 8, Beijing 15, Shi-Jia-Zhung 34, Feng-Chen 3 or Ai-Feng 4.
