A cross-sectional comparison of local dairying production conditions, structures and costs is used as a basis for the comparison of the competitive position of the USA, Canada, New Zealand and countries of the EC-9. An analysis of world milk market conditions and policies and of the development of supply and demand shows that these countries are responsible for more than 42% of world milk production and more than 70% of world exports.
