Rabies in bats in Denmark. Occurrence, significance and precautions

, : Rabies in bats in Denmark. Occurrence, significance and precautions. Dansk Veterinaertidsskrift 70(14): 699-706

Rabies in bats (Eptesicus serotinus) in Denmark was first reported in 1985, when a woman was bitten by a bat she picked up. Maps show the incidence of rabid bats in Denmark in 1985, and in 1986, when there were many more cases. The Danish bat rabies virus (DBRV) was indistinguishable, in monoclonal antibody tests, from European bat rabies virus strains, and only slightly different from the South African "Duvenhage" strain.
