Residual effect of soil-applied herbicides from previous crops on sugarbeet as a rescue crop and possibilities of replacement after sugarbeet treated with herbicides or damaged

The effect of herbicide residues originating from previous crops or crop failures on sugarbeet rescue crops was studied in Belgium. Compared with neburon, chloridazon and toluidine herbicides, the substituted ureas methabenzthiazuron and chlorotoluron showed no adverse effects on sugarbeet establishment. Herbicides with low soil persistence (linuron, isoproturon, nitrofen, terbutryn or neburon + isoproturon) caused no injury to sugarbeet.
