Resistance to potato leaf roll virus and potato virus Y in somatic hybrids between dihaploid Solanum tuberosum and S. brevidens

Resistance to potato leaf roll virus and potato virus Y in somatic hybrids between dihaploid Solanum tuberosum and S. brevidens

Tag. Theoretical and Applied Genetics. Theoretische und Angewandte Genetik 76(1): 113-117

Hybrids were produced by somatic hybridization between dihaploid S. tuberosum and the sexually incompatible species S. brevidens using both chemical and electrical fusion techniques. When inoculated with the viruses, S. brevidens proved resistant to both; potato leaf roll virus was detected by ELISA at low concentrations, while potato virus Y was undetectable. The S. tuberosum parent was susceptible to both viruses.
