Restriction endonuclease cleavage analysis of DNA from two bovine herpes mammillitis viruses, isolated in different parts of Australia

Restriction endonuclease cleavage analysis of DNA from two bovine herpes mammillitis viruses, isolated in different parts of Australia

Australian Veterinary Journal 63(11): 372-373

Two BHMV isolates (BHM-1 from Victoria and BHMV CSIRO 290 from Northern Territory) were compared by DNA restriction endonuclease analysis. A comparison of profiles generated by any one of Bgl II, Bam HI, Xba I, HpaI, Hind III, Pst I, Kpn I and Eco RI restriction endonuclease showed no variability between the two isolates. The only distinct difference was detected by Sal I endonuclease cleavage. Interestingly, the two isolates varied biologically as the latter was 6 times more infective than the former in guinea pig skin.
