Stem diameters of Jonagold/M.9 apple trees were similar in a 1-row system (3.8 x 1.3 m (narrow) or 3.8 x 1.8 m (wide)) or in a 2-row system but were 12% smaller in a 3-row system ((3.8 + 0.9 + 0.9) x 1.8 m). Tree heights were 3-4% smaller in the 2- and 3-row systems than in the 1-row system. Crown volume was larger in the narrow than the wide 1-row system, and was larger in the middle row and northern side of a 3-row system.
