Retention of ketoconazole in the skin after oral treatment

Ketoconazole (200 mg) was administered daily for 10 d to 17 volunteers. Shave biopsies were taken from the buttocks on the last day of treatment and 5 and 10 d later. Ketoconazole concn were determined by high-pressure liquid chromatography of homogenized skin specimens. Median ketoconazole concn in the skin was 3.6 micro g/g 2 h after end of treatment, 2.5 micro g/g after 5 d and 1.2 micro g/g after 10 d.
