Biomass and symbiotic N fixation of 4 Azolla spp. grown in winter and spring as basal dressing for the 1st rice crop in 3 locations in Zhejiang were 4.29-5.77 t FW and 12.00-19.05 kg N/mu from mid-Nov. to late Apr., 4.1-4.8 and 2.9-3.6 times that of Astragalus sinicus Zhezi 5 grown in late Sep.-Apr. in 1984-85.
