Silage pressures in glass-fibre reinforced plastic silos

, : Silage pressures in glass-fibre reinforced plastic silos. Grundlagen der Landtechnik 37(5): 166-172

Vertical and horizontal pressures of sugarbeet pulp and tops were measured at various levels in 3.5-m-diam., 10-m-high glassfibre-reinforced, thin-walled tower silos by a newly developed method using cushions of thin, soft PVC. The weight of silage between 2 levels of measurement, settling of the fodder and its release of liquor were measured, enabling calculation of the friction pressures on the walls.
