Soils of the Spanish humid zone. XII. Influence of hydromorphy on the mineralogical composition of soils developed on different parent materials

Soils of the Spanish humid zone. XII. Influence of hydromorphy on the mineralogical composition of soils developed on different parent materials

Anales de Edafologia y Agrobiologia 44(1/2): 35-52

The mineralogy of four profiles of hydromorphic soils and five of well-drained soils was studied. Seven soils were developed on gabbros and two on granites. The reducing conditions prevalent in the hydromorphic soils curb the weathering of their component materials, as is shown by the higher proportion of weatherable minerals (felspars and ferromagnesians) in their sand fraction, and by their lower levels of free iron and aluminium oxides.
