Of 59 deep uterine swab samples taken from breeding mares, 51 were positive for bacteria, the following being isolated: Escherichia coli (18), Proteus spp. (9), Streptococcus pyogenes (6), Aeromonas spp. (5), Salmonella sp. (4), Staphylococcus aureus (3), Bacillus spp. (2), Citrobacter spp. (2), Corynebacterium pyogenes (1) and Klebsiella spp. (1).
