Studies on rice varietal resistance to rice stem maggot, Chlorops oryzae

In a study of 20 varieties in 1981-83, the number of stems damaged by first generation larvae was positively correlated with number of panicles damaged by the second generation larvae. No ovipositional preferences were noted; larval mortality after artificial infestation varied from 5.6% to 100% and was thought to be due to antibiosis. Number of damaged leaves and larval mortality after artificial infestation were negatively correlated.
