Studies on the development of an inactivated canine parvovirus vaccine. II. Safety and potency of the experimental vaccine

Studies on the development of an inactivated canine parvovirus vaccine. II. Safety and potency of the experimental vaccine

Bulletin of Azabu University, Veterinary Medicine 7(1): 35-42

The CP-K2 strain was inactivated in tissue culture fluid containing 1% serum by addition of 0.2 to 0.3% formalin at 38 degrees C and stirring for 48 hours. Guinea pigs injected intramuscularly with 0.5 ml of the vaccine twice at a 2-week interval developed good haemagglutination inhibition (HI) antibody titres. Dogs with 1:40 to 1:160 HI antibody titres showed no clinical signs of illness after challenge inoculation, though antibody titres increased.
